Raw Feeding Meal Prep: How to Freeze for Easy, Flexible Meals

One of the biggest perks of raw feeding is the ability to customize meals for your pet’s needs. But if you’ve ever struggled with a frozen block of food when you only needed a small portion, you know that meal prep can make all the difference!

To keep feeding flexible and spontaneous, it’s helpful to freeze individual components separately so you can grab exactly what you need—without thawing an entire bag. Here’s how!

Method 1: Single Layer Freezing

This is the simplest way to prevent food from sticking together:

1️⃣ Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or waxed paper.
2️⃣ Lay out your raw, thawed food pieces so they’re not touching. This works great for items like individual sardines, poultry feet, or chunks of muscle meat.
3️⃣ Freeze until solid (a few hours or overnight).
4️⃣ Transfer to a freezer-safe bag or container for easy access. Be sure to label your container to keep everything well organized!

Now, you can grab one or two pieces at a time instead of breaking apart a frozen chunk!

Method 2: Stack & Freeze for Space-Saving Storage

If you’re freezing a large batch of drier items, you can stack layers to maximize freezer space:

1️⃣ Line a baking sheet with wax or parchment paper.
2️⃣ Add a single layer of thawed food items (like poultry necks, feet, or fish).
3️⃣ Place another sheet of wax or parchment paper on top.
4️⃣ Repeat: meat → paper → meat → paper, stacking as high as you feel comfortable.
5️⃣ Transfer the entire stack to the freezer & freeze until solid. Then transfer to a freezer-safe bag or container once fully frozen.

This method saves space while keeping pieces separate for easy portioning!

What About Wet or Sticky Items?

Some foods, like tripe strips, liver, or hearts, tend to be wet and sticky. These don’t stack well and are best frozen in single layers to prevent them from clumping together.

Make Mealtime Effortless!

With these freezing methods, you’ll never have to struggle with solid blocks of frozen food again. Just grab what you need, mix and match proteins, and keep mealtime stress-free!
